North Platte River Fishing Report

(Grey Reef, Fremont Canyon, Miracle Mile) 10/12/22

Grey Reef:

Flows- 505 CFS

Fishing Report- We are still pleased with how the Reef is fishing. The upper most portion of the Reef is pretty mossy and less productive. With that being said, it is still fishing well below Government Bridge. We have mostly been running dry droppers, predominately with Caddis and Baetis patterns. If you are nymphing, start with 4 ft to an AB or BB and adjust from there.  The Reef has been productive with streamers as well despite the floating moss in some sections. As per usual, the Rusty Trombone lands at the top of the list as far as streamer patterns go.

Miracle Mile:

Flows- 535 CFS

Fishing Report- The Mile is mossy at the moment but still fishing well. The classic red San Juan has been productive along with various BWO patterns as the Blue Wing hatch is most consistent. Start 4 ft to an AB or BB and adjust from there.  Most of the fish are sitting at the top of the runs, so it is best to key in on moving currents.

Fremont Canyon:

Flows- 80 CFS

Fishing Report- Fremont is still pretty off color, but we are hearing positive reports, nonetheless. Caddis and BWO’s are on the menu, and the dry dropper set up is fishing best.

The Big Horn:

Flows- 895 CFS

Fishing Report- The Big Horn is also pretty mossy right now, but we are hearing very positive reports on dry fly fishing. Similar to the Reef, Caddis patterns are fishing the best both on top of the water and subsurface. If you are nymphing, start 3 ft to an AB or BB and adjust from there. Streamer fishing is tough given the moss but not completely lost. The Olive Ditch Witch and Vanilla Bugger are the go-to at the moment.
